Kiutra cryostats: sub-kelvin cooling without helium-3

Kiutra cools by magnetic refrigeration: adiabatic demagnetization, and its continuous form, cADR. No helium-3, no liquid cryogens, automated operation. Paeonia Bloch supplies and supports Kiutra systems in Singapore and the ASEAN region.

How Kiutra cools

A closed-cycle cryocooler takes the system to about 4 K. Below that, Kiutra uses magnetic cooling: a paramagnetic solid is magnetised, thermally isolated and demagnetised, which lowers its temperature. Run with several stages in alternation, this becomes continuous ADR (cADR). Kiutra states that it is the first company to develop and commercialise ADR in a continuous configuration, and describes it as "the only alternative to helium-3-based cooling".

For a laboratory this means sub-kelvin temperatures with no helium-3 to source, no liquid helium to order, and a cooling cycle that the software runs on its own. How ADR compares with a dilution refrigerator.

The manufacturer

kiutra GmbH, Munich

Kiutra was founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich and builds its cryostats in Munich, Germany. Kiutra reports 42 systems delivered across 12 countries on three continents.

Kiutra in ASEAN

Who distributes Kiutra cryostats in Singapore and ASEAN?

Paeonia Bloch, based in Singapore, distributes Kiutra cryostats in ASEAN: configuration, quotation, import, installation support and local service. Write to cs@paeoniabloch.com.

Are Kiutra cryostats dilution refrigerators?

No. Kiutra cryostats use magnetic cooling (adiabatic demagnetization, and continuous ADR). They need no helium-3.

Which Kiutra system should I look at?

For fast sample characterisation from 50 mK to 300 K, the L-Type Rapid. For trapped-ion work with optical access at 5 K, the T-Type Optical. For scalable quantum processors at millikelvin temperatures, the X-Type beta programme. Tell us the experiment and we will confirm.
